Studies in Ancient Greek Topography
Part VII

Author: W.K. Pritchett

This seventh volume of Prof. Pritchett's studies, correlating topography with ancient texts, seeks to identify the sites and routes in Philip's campaign in northwest Greece in 219 B.C. (Polybios), his march on Thermon in 218 (Polybios), Demosthenes' campaign in Aitolia in 426 (Thucydides), Agesilaos' campaign in Akarnania in 389 (Xenophon), the march of the Romans over Mount Olympos in 169 (Livy), and Lykourgos' raid on the Parnon littoral in 219 (Polybios). He also includes a unique collection of 175 photographs. There follow four supplements, in part inspired by the criticisms of other scholars, on the topography of Thermopylai, of Pausanias' Argos-Sparta road passing through the Battlefield of Champions, and of the Messenian wars which includes a section on Homeric warfare.
