La mer Noire est un vaste espace navigable situé au carrefour des mondes anciens : les Balkans à l?ouest, les steppes eurasiennes au nord, le Caucase et l?Asie centrale à l?est, l?Asie Mineure et la Mésopotamie au sud, et la Grèce au sud-ouest. Aux VIe et Ve siècles av. J.-C., des communautés grecques s?installent de façon permanente sur ses rives, établissant un réseau commercial actif et lucratif directement lié à la Méditerranée. Dans le même temps, plusieurs royaumes se structurent (notamment ceux du Bosphore, du Pont et des Odryses) et développent d?étroites relations avec le monde égéen. C?est dans ce contexte très dynamique que certaines croyances égyptiennes atteignent les littoraux du Pont-Euxin pour s?y implanter durablement.
Le volume Egyptian Cults on the Black Sea Coast, qui réunit 11 communications présentées en juin 2022 à Varna, en Bulgarie, lors du colloque international du même nom, est l?aboutissement d?un projet fructueux. Rédigés par les meilleurs spécialistes de l?espace pontique, ces articles apportent des éclairages nouveaux sur d?anciennes questions, tout en révélant de nombreux documents inédits qui illustrent à merveille le formidable impact des interactions culturelles durant l?Antiquité dans cette région du monde.

Laurent Bricault, docteur en égyptologie (Paris-Sorbonne, 1994), est professeur d'histoire romaine à l'Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès et membre senior de l'Institut Universitaire de France. Reconnu pour ses travaux sur la religion égyptienne tardive, il est l'auteur de Les cultes isiaques dans le monde gréco-romain (2013, Les Belles Lettres) et a récemment publié Isis Pelagia : Images, Names and Cults of a Goddess of the Seas (2020, Brill).

Vessela Atanassova est égyptologue et enseignante-chercheuse à l?Institut des études balkaniques - Centre de Thracologie auprès de l?Académie bulgare des sciences. Depuis septembre 2023, elle est chercheuse accueillie à l?École française d?Athènes. Ses recherches se concentrent principalement sur les relations socio-culturelles entre l?Égypte et la Thrace durant l?Antiquité, dans le cadre de son projet Thrace et Égypte à l?époque gréco-romaine. En 2020, elle a co-édité avec Laurent Bricault Les cultes isiaques à Serdica.
The Black Sea is a vast navigable area situated at the crossroads of ancient worlds: the Balkans to the west, the Eurasian steppes to the north, the Caucasus and Central Asia to the east, Asia Minor and Mesopotamia to the south, and Greece to the southwest. In the 6th and 5th centuries BCE, Greek communities settled permanently on its shores, establishing an active and lucrative trade network directly linked to the Mediterranean. At the same time, several kingdoms (notably those of the Bosporus, Pontus, and the Odrysae) developed, fostering close relationships with the Aegean world. It is in this dynamic context that certain Egyptian beliefs reached the coasts of the Pontus Euxinus, taking root there permanently.
The volume Egyptian Cults on the Black Sea Coast, which compiles 11 papers presented in June 2022 in Varna, Bulgaria, during the international conference of the same name, is the culmination of a fruitful project. Written by the foremost specialists in the Pontic area, these articles shed new light on ancient questions, while revealing numerous previously unseen documents that wonderfully illustrate the significant impact of cultural interactions during Antiquity in this part of the world.

Laurent Bricault, who holds a doctorate in Egyptology (Paris-Sorbonne, 1994), is a professor of Roman history at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès and a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France. Renowned for his work on late Egyptian religion, he is the author of Les cultes isiaques dans le monde gréco-romain (2013, Les Belles Lettres) and has recently published Isis Pelagia: Images, Names and Cults of a Goddess of the Seas (2020, Brill).

Vessela Atanassova is an Egyptologist and a research professor at the Institute for Balkan Studies - Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Since September 2023, she has been a visiting researcher at the French School at Athens. Her research primarily focuses on the socio-cultural relations between Egypt and Thrace during Antiquity, as part of her project "Thrace and Egypt in the Greco-Roman Era". In 2020, she co-edited with Laurent Bricault Les cultes isiaques à Serdica.
